Thunderbird and Tamarisk Country Club in Rancho Mirage
You will also be pleased to know that you will be in very good company in Rancho Mirage as many Academy Award winners have had an association with our city, either as residents or as members of one of our country clubs.
In the 1950s, Hollywood considered Rancho Mirage a hip, relaxing place to get away from the madness and hubbub of Los Angeles. Most were Hollywood "A" list celebrities, and many were Academy Award winners. Nearly all of the Oscar winners associated with our city were members of Tamarisk or Thunderbird Country Club.
Bing Crosby, Humphrey Bogart, had a membership at Tamarisk and visited the area often.
Former circus acrobat Burt Lancaster, Gregory Peck, Mary Pickford, were also members of the Thunderbird country Club.
Ginger Rogers, who wintered in Rancho Mirage for many years at her Thunderbird Country Club home, won the 1944 Best Actress Oscar for the dramatic film, Kitty Foyle.
Producer Irving Allen, also a member of Tamarisk, won the 1947 Short Subject Documentary award for Climbing the Matterhorn
